Both of my 75lb hound/lab mixes love the platypus and the turtle. They play with them all the time and the toys don't fall to pieces. One of the dogs has been able to tear the squeaker out of the eggs, so if your dog swallow squeakers, be aware. Ours do not, they just look at the squeaker with disappointment on their faces, as if to say, "I was expecting to find a kitten or a squirrel, and instead that exciting noise was coming from this undelicious piece of plastic."UPDATE: After three months, one of the dogs has successfully ripped open the head of the turtle. He is very proud of himself. Both dogs continue to love both toys, so I'm back to replace the defunct turtle with the dinosaur. It's part of my day now, picking up a toy and stuffing the eggs back into it, so that the dogs can pull them out again.UPDATE 2: We now have a replacement platypus (the first was utterly dismembered after four months), a fish, a dinosaur, and a headless turtle. The squeakers are all dead, and I am back to buy more eggs that squeak. Every day I get home from work to find the dog bed littered with a dozen eggs and four limp, eggless carcasses. I stuff the eggs back in... and the dogs set to work again. It's the circle of life.

After seeing these "hide-a-squirrel" and egg babies toys for a while, I just couldn't picture my 40lb boxer mix puppy (13 months) doing anything but tearing it up and swallowing the eggs. But she doesn't. She gets the eggs out, sets them aside, and looks for more. Once the eggs are out, there's really no stuffing to worry about (except the head, but she's not interested in that part). She did get a LITTLE batting out of the cavity where the eggs go - but the seam stayed in tact. If you're having a hard time picturing what these are all about, see the video!

We've been through a lot of dog toys over the years. There wasn't anything particularly exciting about this platypus toy and I was afraid it was too small for our big dog house (two Great Pyrenees/Lab mixes and a Great Dane puppy). And it probably is. But, we gave it a shot, anyway. The platypus itself is just okay. The "little" GD puppy will toss it around a bit. It's not much of a challenge to get the eggs out (it might be tougher for smaller dogs). Oh, those eggs, though! The Pyr/Lab boys LOVE the eggs! One will toss an egg around, kick it, chase it all by himself, the other just walks around with an egg hanging out of his mouth, happy as a clam. The eggs are not very durable by our standards- two have already split a seam, only one of the five still squeaks. They get lost under couches and in other nooks and crannies easily. They could be larger. But, I'm still giving this toy 5 stars- the eggs really are that much of a hit, despite their faults. And although you can buy a more colorful platypus-less 3 pack of the eggs, at the current pricing, it's a better deal to just buy the 5-pack of eggs (with complimentary platypus).

This was a different type of toy for my dog, and he enjoys the challenge. I have a 6-year-old OES (Old English sheepdog) and this was one of his birthday gifts. Initially he loved it as just a new, large squeaky toy. Good loud squeaking, just the way he likes it, and he ran around the house with Platypus clasped in his jaws, very excited about his new toy. Then he settles on his bed, to sniff and periodically chomp down to hear the squeak. I was surprised that this time he did not tear it apart to try to dig out the squeaky; he seemed content to leave the platypus intact. On day two I showed him the hidden pocket, and he watched me very intently as I removed a couple of the eggs, I squeaked them and he watched me place them back inside the insert. Then he tried to remove the squeaking eggs, but they were wedged in tightly, and apparently, he did not want to wreck this new toy, so he brought it back to me for some help. I removed one of the eggs to make it easier for him, and now he loves this new challenge. He gently removes the eggs and then uses them as a ball to chew and squeak, then roll them, and flick them around with his paws, much in the manner of a very large cat. It is hysterically funny to watch his antics as he devises new ways to play with this toy. Eventually when the squeaky eggs have had the squeaky completely crunched out, I have the two extra that comes with the Platypus to substitute so this toy could last a least a month.
