I bought this back in 2013 when my puppy(a morkie) was just about 4-6 months old. She just kept slipping on the floor so i knew i had to do something about her paw hair. Sure enough, this thing has been the best thing i could have purchased. Now, three years later blade still cuts some what but clearly needs sharpening or replacing. After searching for a new blade, found out it was cheaper to just get the whole thing than just the blade. Hopefully this second one is as durable as the old one.Ps. For those that are worried about the noise, you cant just use this right away on any dog/puppy that is not used to it. This does make some noise but if you intruduce this slowly and increase the time cutting the hair slowly, it will get you to the point where they dont mind it at all.1: turn it on, bring it close to your dog/pupp (slowly). Let them sniff/ get acquinted with it. Some dogs may need you to do this offten, if they are ok with it and dont run away scared... Continue to spep 2. If not.. Keep repeating this step until dog is confortable enough.2: Once your dog gets confortable looking at it or resisting the noise near them, bring the opposite end of the trimmer to their bodies (again, slowly). Let them feel the vibration, just for a few sec.... Increase the time gradually. Praise your dog (treats or pet them), just let them know they are doing fine and its not something they need to be scared of. Keep calm while doing this. (Remember, if you are calm, he/she will not detect a threat from it.)3: once you have mastered the above steps, you can start trying the trimmer on them. It may feel a bit weird for them and try to get away from it, but stop, let them take a breath and calm down a bit before continuing.Read more ›

My older husky has chronic perianal adenomas (oozing sores around the rear end) not able to be removed surgically due to other health issues. I've been able to keep the mess to a minimum by using this trimmer to minimize hair back there. It cuts through even thick husky hair if you don't use the attachments. It does clog quickly, but that's to be expected because it's small. You can control how much or little hair you remove. I hate close shaves on my dog because it irritates his skin, so I just use a gentle sweeping motion (I don't push hard against the skin) with this and can stop when I've removed as much hair as I want. It's a little noisy, but it's also cordless so I consider that a fair trade. Despite the noise, it doesn't vibrate excessively, which means pup isn't bothered by it. If you use on wet or very thick/longer hair it will clog up very quickly, so either get something more powerful or wear a glove so you can quickly clear it of hair after a couple passes. Great for trimming small areas!

I have a short haired Fox Terrier. I use this trimmer to cut off those long bits that grow on the tail and back legs. However, I find this trimmer too small and fine. The cutting head is only about 3/4 of an inch across and the teeth are very close together. I have to pass these trimmers over the same place many times to cut off what I want and this makes it hard to do a good job. This trimmer comes with a little stand for it and the accessories but the accessories don't really fit into the spaces provided and the stand is unstable. I thought the unit was rechargeable but its not. It takes two AA batteries that are included. The trimmer also comes with a small bottle of oil, which is a nice touch. I hoped that I could use this trimmer on my horses' too but there is no way - its too fine. Yes, I know they have a model for horses but after trying this one for dogs, I don't think I'd buy the one for horses. I don't recommend this product although its not a total rip-off.Sept.9/16: I now use this to trim my own hair. It's great for doing the edge because it cuts nice and close. I don't use it often but it still has the original batteries in. May they should market this for human use. I'll bump it to 4 stars.

The "snap-on" combs aren't really needed for a touch up pet trimmer. The blade on it is a really teeny 40 blade, but it does the trick on the pads. For $15 you get a nice little trimmer to add to your grooming arsenal. To get more than this, you have to spend more.

I purchased the Wahl Home Pet Touch Up Trimmer #9990-502. I needed this trimmer to do touch up work when I groom my three furr babies. I have 2 Yorkies and a Maltese. They need to have their pads on the feet done and this trimmer is just perfect for that! It also works well for around the face and the hair on their backside. The trimmer does not make a loud noise more of a buzz and the puppies don't mind me using it. The trimmer also comes with 3 different size guides in case you want to leave the hair longer. It really helps to get to areas that are hard to get to with the larger clippers. The width of the cutting head is 1 inch wide. It is very easy to hold and it uses 2 AA batteries. I think this is a wonderful little tool and I think the price was very good. It is also guaranteed for a year!
